Sodium hydride (60%, in oil, 143 mg) was added to a solution of methyl E-4-(hydroxyimino)-4-phenylbutyrate (676 mg) and 5-chloro-2-(4-chloromethylphenoxymethyl)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (1.00 g) in N,N-dimethylormamide (10 ml) at room temperature and stirred for 1 hour. 1N hydrochloric acid (7 ml) was added, an aqueous saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate was added and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with an aqueous saturated solution of sodium chloride, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The residue was subjected to silica gel chromatography to obtain methyl E-4-[4-(5-chloroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-2-ylmethoxy)benzyloxyimino]-4-phenylbutyrate (1.04 g, yield 67%) as a colorless oil from an ethyl acetate-hexane (2:1, v/v)-eluted fraction.
