To a solution of 2.533 g (8.470 mmol) of 2-[(3-furylmethyl)-(6-phenylhexyl)amino]ethanol, 1.77 ml (12.7 mmol) of triethylamine and 30 mg of 4-dimethylaminopyridine in 50 ml of dichloromethane, 1.94 g (10.2 mmol) of p-toluenesulfonyl chloride was added at room temperature, followed by overnight stirring at room temperature. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure; the resulting crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=15/1 to 9/1) to yield the desired product.
