A solution of 4-allyloxy-8-nitroquinoline (3.72 g) in biphenyl (2.59 g) and diphenyl ether (7.4 g) was heated at 200° C. for 10 minutes. After cooling, n-hexane (40 ml) was added thereto, and the mixture was warmed at 90° C. After cooling, the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration to give 3-allyl-1,4-dihydro-8-nitro-4-oxoquinoline (3.13 g).
