A mixture of 200 mg of 1-(4-nitro-3-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)phenyl)piperidine 1e, 85 mg of 2-chloroisonicotinaldehyde, 6.7 mg of Pd(OAc)2, 31 mg of PPh3, 1.25 mL of 2 N aqueous Na2CO3 solution, and 3 mL of DME were refluxed 2 h. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed 3× with water. The organic extracts were washed with brine and dried (Na2SO4). The solvent was evaporated and the residue was chromatographed on silica gel eluting with 10% ethyl acetate in dichloromethane. This gave 114 mg of product. MS (ES, m/z): 312.0 [M+H]+.
