Under anhydrous conditions a mixture of 2-chloro-4-fluorobenzoic acid (0.37 g, 2.12 mmol) and oxalyl chloride (0.303 mL, 2.3 mmol) in 10 mL of dichloromethane containing a catalytic amount of dimethylforrnamide was stirred at room temperature until gas evolution ceased. The crude acid chloride solution was then added portionwise to a stirred solution of 6H-pyrido[2,3-b][1,5]benzoxazepine of Step A (0.45 g, 2.12 mmol) and triethylamine (0.35 mL, 2.5 mmol) in 15 mL of dichloromethane. The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at ambient temperature, washed with water and dried over sodium sulfate. Evaporation of the solvent provided the crude title compound as a gummy solid which was used as such in the next step.
