Procedure
Into a solution of 3-chloro-2-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-hydroxyphenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole (0.9 g) in dimethylformamide (10 ml), there was added potassium carbonate (0.25 g) and ethyl iodide (1 g), and the mixture was stirred for 60° C. for 3 hours. After cooling, water was added to the reaction mixture, followed by extraction with ether. The ether layer was washed with water twice, dried and concentrated. The residue was crystallized from hexane to give 0.2 g of 3-chloro-2-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-ethoxyphenyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole (Compound No. 1). m.p., 85.1° C.
