A mixture of 19.0 g (0.123 mol) of product from Step A, 15.53 g (0.185 mol) of dihydropyran, 2.56 g (0.010 mol) of pyridinium-4-toluenesulfonate, and 700 ml CH2Cl2 was stirred at ambient temperature for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was washed twice with half saturated NaCl solution, dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and evaporated. The residual colorless oil was distilled (112° C., 0.05 mm Hg) yielding a quantitative amount of product.
