5-Cyano-2-{(4S)-5-cyano-3,6-dimethyl-2-oxo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidin-4-yl}benzenesulfonyl chloride (600 mg) was dissolved in THF (4.25 ml). Sodium sulfite (195 mg, 1.55 mmol; 1.5 eq.) and sodium bicarbonate (303 mg, 3.61 mmol; 3.5 eq.), dissolved in water (1.7 ml), were then added. The mixture was stirred at RT for 1 h. The reaction solution was then lyophilized directly.
