Procedure

A mixture of 7-chloro-6-nitrothieno[3,2-b]pyridine (0.48 g, 2.2 mmol) (Example 1, Step 2), tert-butyl 4-aminopiperidine-1-carboxylate (from Aldrich, 0.67 g, 3.4 mmol) and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (1.2 mL, 6.7 mmol) in isopropyl alcohol (7.6 mL) was heated at 90° C. for 2 h. The precipitate was washed with isopropyl alcohol to give the desired product (0.70 83%). LCMS calculated for C17H23N4O4S (M+H)+: m/z=379.1. Found: 379.2.
