Procedure
To a solution of PPh3 (20 g, 76 mmol) in THF (20 mL) is added a solution of 5-bromo-pyridin-3-ol (5.0 g, 29 mmol) in THF (10 mL). Then a solution of di-tert-butyl azodicarboxylate (16 g, 69 mmol) in THF (10 ml) is added. The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 30 min and 3-methylsulfanyl-propan-1-ol (3.3 g, 31 mmol) is added. The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 16 hrs. Then the solid is filtered and the filterate is concentrated. The residue is purified by flash column chromatography to give 4.5 g of 3-bromo-5-(3-methylsulfanyl-propoxy)-pyridine.
