Procedure

tert-Butyl 3-(4-((tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino)-2-cyano-1-ethoxy-1-oxobutan-2-yl)azetidine-1-carboxylate (7 g) obtained in Step B of Example 309 in tetrahydrofuran (80 mL) was added sodium hydride (60% in mineral oil, 816 mg) in an ice bath, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. To the reaction mixture was added saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The obtained organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (1.4 g).
