A 1M THF solution of sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (7.7 mL, 7.7 mmol) was added dropwise over 5 min to a solution of N-(2-ethoxyethyl)-2-chloro-6-(trimethylsilyl)benzamide (2.1 g, 7 mmol) in THF (30 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred for 1 h at RT, then a solution of ethyl iodide (1.31 g, 8.4 mmol) in THF (15 mL) was added with a mild exotherm. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred overnight, then was partitioned between ethyl acetate and dilute aq citric acid. The ethyl acetate phase was washed with sat aq NaHCO3 followed with brine, then was dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to afford 1.9 g of the title compound as an amber oil, an 83% yield.
