Procedure
2 g of 5-fluoro-2-nitrotoluene were added to a solution of 20 ml of N-methylpyrrolidinone, 1.41 g of 3-amino-1,2-propanediol, and 1.57 g of triethylamine. The reaction medium was heated at 60° C. for 10 hours and, after cooling to room temperature, was poured into a water/ice mixture. The resulting medium was extracted with ethyl acetate and the organic phase was then concentrated under vacuum. 0.28 g of 3-(4-nitro-3-methylphenylamino)propane-1,2-diol (9) was obtained.
