1.03 g (3.49 mmol) of 4-(4-iodobenzyl)pyridine was dissolved in 15 ml of dimethylformamide. 39 mg (0.18 mmol) of palladium acetate, 0.97 ml (6.98 mmol) of triethylamine and 2.82 ml (69.8 mmol) of methanol were added to the solution, and the resultant mixture was stirred in the presence of carbon monoxide at 70° C. for 6 hours. The reaction solution was diluted with water. After the extraction with ethyl acetate, the organic layer was washed with water and then with a saturated Aqueous NaCl solution. The solvent was evaporated, and the residue was purified by the silica gel column chromatography to obtain the title compound.
