To 3-iodo-4-nitro-1H-indazole (2.13 g, 7.37 mmol) in DMF (20 mL) was added 4-(chloromethyl)-1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-1H-pyrazole hydrochloride (2.21 g, 8.11 mmol) and K2CO3 (3.06 g, 22.1 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with EtOAc, washed with H2O, and brine, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. Silica gel chromatography (hexanes/EtOAc 5:1) provided the desired product (2.88 g).
