7-bromo-8-methylpyrido[2,3-b]pyrazine (0.21 g) and NaBH4 (0.21 g) in THF (1.4 ml) was treated with trifluoroacetic acid (1.4 ml) at room temperature over a period of 15 min. Stirring continued for additional 45 min then water was added followed by 50% sodium hydroxide. The residue was extracted into CH2Cl2, filtered, dried, and concentrated to furnish the desired product (0.12 g).
