N-ethyl 2-propoxy-5-bromobenzylamine hydrochloride 2 (5.17 g, 16.8 mmol) and 3-chloro-6-cyanopyridazine (2.65 g, 16.8 mmol) were dissolved in NMP (25 ml) and sodium hydrogen carbonate added (3.54 g, 42.1 mmol). The mixture was heated at 110 ° C. under argon for 7.5 hours and then allowed to cool to ambient temperature. The mixture was poured into ethyl acetate (200 ml) washed with water (5×200 ml) and brine (200 ml), the organic phase dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by MPLC (20% ethyl acetate/hexane) and then crystallised from ether/hexane to give the title product (4.80 g, 76%).
