Procedure

A solution of methyl 2-{N-methyl-N-[(R/S)-α-methyl-4-(3,5-dimethylbenzyloxy)phenylacetyl]amino}-(R)-propionate 46b (107 mg, 0.28 mmol) in THF (5 mL) was treated with 1 N LiOH (1 mL) for 40 min. The solution was acidified with 1 N HCl (1.5 mL) and extracted with EtOAc three times. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated to give the acid (103 mg, 100%) as a solid. MS (CI—NH3): (M+H)+=370.
