Procedure

To a mixture of 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde (1.8 g, 14.8 mmol) and triphenyl phosphine (4.85 g, 18.5 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (15 ml) was added 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzothiazin-4-yl)ethanol (2.39 g, 12.3 mmol) and diisopropyl azodicarboxylate (3.74 g, 18.5 mmol) in THF (20 ml) at 25° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 12 h at 25° C. Water (100 ml) was added and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (2×100 ml). The organic extracts were dried (Na2SO4) and solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The crude product was chromatographed over silica gel using a mixture of methanol and chloroform (5:95) as an eluent to afford the title compound (1.6 g, 44%) as an oil.
