With ice-cooling, 4.44 g (34.7 mmol) of ethanesulfonyl chloride were added dropwise to a solution of 5.1 g (31.6 mmol) of 1-amino-3,3-dimethylindan (Example 1a) and 12.8 g (126 mmol) of triethylamine in 100 ml of THF. After 2 h at RT, the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was taken up in water and EA. The organic phase was dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure, giving 6.4 g of 3,3-dimethyl-1-ethylsulfonylaminoindan.
