Procedure
m-Chloroperbenzoic acid (1.97 g, 7.99 mmol) was gradually added to a solution of 1-ethyl-5-(3-methyl-3-butenyl)-1H-tetrazole (0.95 g, 5.71 mmol) in methylene chloride (20 ml) while cooling in an ice-bath, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 21 hours. To the reaction mixture, sodium thiosulfate aqueous solution and sodium hydrogencarbonate aqueous solution were added, and the resulting mixture was filtered. The organic layer was separated, washed with sodium hydrogencarbonate aqueous solution, dried over magnesium sulfate. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 1-ethyl-5-[2-(2-methyl-2-oxiranyl)ethyl]-1H-tetrazole (1.2 g, quantitative) as a pale yellow oil.
