Procedure

2 g (8.54 mmol) of 3-phenyl-1,8-naphthyridine-5-carboxaldehyde, 0.7 g (8.54 mmol) of 3-aminocrotononitrile and 1.08 ml of ethyl acetoacetate (8.54 mmol) are boiled in 16 ml of ethanol in an N2 atmosphere for 16 hours. Chromatography over silica gel and elution with ethyl acetate gives 0.38 g (10.8% of theory) of the title compound of melting point 265° C.

Workup

  1. washChromatography over silica gel and elution with ethyl acetate
