3-Amino-6-methoxypyridine (12.41 g) and diethyl ethoxymethylene malonate (20.2 ml) in Dowtherm A (400 ml) were heated at reflux, under argon for 1 hour. The cooled reaction mixture was poured into pentane (1 liter). The precipitated solid was collected by filtration, washed with pentane and dried to afforded a solid (24.78 g, crude).
