A mixture of 2,6-dichloro-4-(2,6-difluorophenoxy)pyridine (552 mg, 2.0 mmol), 4-methylthiazol-2-amine (228 mg, 2.0 mmol), potassium phosphate (466 mg, 2.20 mmol), tris(dibenzylideneacetone)dipalladium (0) (0.092 g, 0.100 mmol) and 9,9-dimethyl-4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)xanthene (0.167 g, 0.100 mmol) in degassed toluene (5 mL) and water (2 mL) is heated at 90° C. for 12 hours and then cooled to room temperature. The reaction mixture is partitioned between water and ethyl acetate to afford N-(6-chloro-4-(2,6-difluorophenoxy)pyridin-2-yl)-4-methylthiazol-2-amine.
