A mixture of 162 (8.4 mmol), 3-fluoro-2-(1H-imidazol-2-yl)-pyridine (described above) (1.38 g, 8.4 mmol) and K2CO3 (1.17 g, 8.4 mmol) in DMF (6 ml) is stirred at room temperature overnight. To the mixture are added EtOAc (20 ml) and water (10 ml). The organic layer is separated and the aqueous layer is extracted with EtOAc (3×10 ml). The combined extracts are washed with brine (10 ml), dried (Na2SO4) and solvent evaporated. PTLC separation of the residue (5% MeOH in CH2Cl2) gives the product (163) as a white solid.
