A mixture of 1-benzyl-4-bromomethyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-pyridine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (860 mg, 2.46 mmol), (toluene-4-sulfonylamino)-acetic acid methyl ester (660 mg, 2.70 mmol), sodium iodide (740 mg, 4.91 mmol) and potassium carbonate (680 mg, 4.91 mmol) in DMF (20 mL) was stirred at r.t. for 16 h. Brine (50 mL) were added, and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc. The organic layers were combined, washed with water, and dried over MgSO4. After evaporating the solvent in vacuo, the crude product was chromatographed (0-70% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 940 mg of the title compound. MS: (+) m/z 512.97 (M+1).
