Sodium hydride (0.12 g, 2.98 mmol) was added to a yellow solution of (3-(benzo[b]thiophen-2-ylmethyl)-4-chloro-2-methoxyquinolin-6-yl)(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)(6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl)methanol (0.88 g, 1.49 mmol, Intermediate 51: step c) in dry DMF (25 mL) at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 45 minutes and then acetic anhydride (0.28 mL, 2.98 mmol) was added. The resulting dark mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Ice was added followed by NaHCO3 (saturated aqueous solution). The aqueous mixture was extracted with EtOAc (2×). The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated in vacuo to provide the title compound which was carried on to the next step without further purification.
