Procedure

To a solution of quinaldic acid (5.0 g, 28.87 mmol), 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (5.5 g, 28.87 mmol), and 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (5.1 g, 37.49 mmol) in DMF (60 mL) at 0° C. was added ethanolamine (1.74 mL, 28.87 mmol) and 4-methylmorpholihne (4.76 mL, 43.31 mmol). The reaction was stirred at 0° C. for an additional 10 minutes and then warmed to room temperature and stirred for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then diluted with ethyl acetate, washed 3 times with H2O, once with NaHCO3 (sat), once with brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo to provide 1.5 g (24% yield) of a pale yellow solid. Electrospray Mass Spec: m/z 216.8 (M+H)+.
