Tetralone (132 g), toluene (131 g), and 0.5 g of copper hydroxide suspension (37.5% Cu(OH)2), were mixed into a 500 ml round bottom with temperature control, gas dispersion tube, water-cooled condenser and a magnetic stirrer. The reaction was maintained at 80° C. for 9.8 hr. with a 300 ml/minute oxygen flow at atmospheric pressure. GC analysis (area %) indicates 3% 1-tetralol, 5.2% 1-tetralone and 15% 1-tetralin hydroperoxide.
