Procedure

A solution of the compound from step A (450 mg, 2.01 mmol) and tri(o-tolyl)phosphine (123 mg, 0.40 mmol) in DMF (8 mL) was cooled to 0° C. and purged with nitrogen for 15 min. TEA (0.56 mL, 4.02 mmol) and methyl acrylate (0.36 mL, 4.00 mmol) were added and purging was continued for 5 min. Palladium acetate (45 mg, 0.20 mmol) was added and the flask was stoppered and heated to 120° C. for 24 h. The cooled reaction mixture was diluted with ether (50 mL) and washed with water (2×25 mL) and brine (25 mL), dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. Purification by chromatography (SiO2, 4:1 hexane/ethyl acetate) yielded 356 mg (77%) of the title compound. MS 230 (M+H)+.
