1-benzyloxycarbonyl-4,4-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperidine is prepared by reaction of 4,4-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperidine with benzyl chloroformate in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of triethylamine.
