Procedure

A solution of 0.5 g of 2-methyl-4-phenoxy5-trifluoromethylbenzoic acid [obtainable by reaction of methyl 2-methyl-4-phenoxy-5-bromobenzoate with potassium trifluoroacetate in the presence of Cul and tetramethylammonium iodide and subsequent hydrolysis] and 300 mg of carbonyldiimidazole in 15 ml of THF is stirred at room temperature for two hours and then added to 383 mg of guanidine. The mixture is stirred for a further two hours. After customary working up, N-diaminomethylene-2-methyl-4-phenoxy-5-trifluoromethylbenzamide is obtained.

Workup
