A mixture of 1-(2-diethylaminoethyl)-4-trifluoromethyl-6-iodo-3-hydroxy-3-(2-chlorophenyl)oxindole (720 mg, 0.13 mmol), 3-(2-oxo-1-imidazolidinyl)-1-propyne (280 mg, 0.226 mmol), triethylamine (1 mL), CuI (12.8 mg, 0.0372 mmol), and (PPh3)2PdCl2 (22.6 mg, 0.0322 mmol) in a mixed solvent of THF (0.5 mL) and toluene (0.5 mL) was stirred for 3 h at 50° C. Water and sat. aqueous NaHCO3 were added and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extracts were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography with 30:1 to 20:1 chloroform/methanol to give the title compound (625 mg). The compound was dissolved in dioxane (4 mL) and 4 N HCl in dioxane (1.5 mL) was added. The solvent was evaporated azeotropically with toluene. The residual solid was washed with ether and dried in vacuo to give the hydrochloride (583 mg, 77%).
