Dihydropyridine 2 (R8 =CH2 -C6H5 or ##STR4## Y=O or S, n=0 or 1) (Reaction Scheme I) is treated under an inert atmosphere (Ar or N2) with about 5-50 meq (preferably 10 meq trifluoroacetic acid neat or in the presence of a solvent (anisole, CH2Cl2, CHCl3, dichloroethane) at 25°-100° C. (preferably 25° C.) for about 10-60 minutes to obtain the Formula 1 compound. ##STR5##
