Into a 100-mL round-bottom flask, was placed methyl 5-(1,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydroimidazo[4,5-d]azepin-2-yl)-2,4-dimethylbenzoate (compound 83.4, 347 mg, 0.84 mmol), 2-bromopropane (790 μL, 8.40 mmol), N,N-diisopropylethylamine (1.46 mL, 8.4 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (5 mL). The solution was stirred for 4 h at 80° C., then cooled to room temperature. The resulting solution was diluted with ethyl acetate (50 mL) and washed with brine (4×20 mL), dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield 0.22 g (crude) of the title compound as brown oil.
