A 10-mL microwave vial was charged with 4-chloro-2-(3-chlorophenyl)-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine (0.120 g, 0.41 mmol), 4-aminophenpropyl alcohol (0.093 g, 0.61 mmol), palladium acetate (0.005 g, 0.021 mmol), rac-BINAP (0.019 g, 0.031 mmol) and cesium carbonate (0.335 g, 1.02 mmol) in dioxane (5 mL) under argon. The reaction mixture was heated to 120° C. under microwave irradiation for 4 h. After this time, the reaction mixture was cooled and diluted with water (5 mL) and ethyl acetate (100 mL). The organic layer was washed with saturated sodium chloride (2×5 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and the filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica using hexanes/ethyl acetate (10:0 to 0:10) as eluent to afford the title compound (0.024 g, 15%) as an off-white solid. MW=406.83. M.p. 46-48° C. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 500 MHz) δ 9.28 (s, 1H), 7.98-7.96 (m, 1H), 7.91-7.86 (m, 1H), 7.56-7.51 (m, 2H), 7.49 (d, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 7.26 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 2H), 7.22 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 2H), 7.17 (d, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 4.46 (t, J=5.0 Hz, 1H), 3.43 (q, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 2.62 (t, J=7.5 Hz, 2H), 1.77-1.59 (m, 2H); APCI MS m/z 407 [M+H]+.
