Procedure
To a stirred solution of 6-hydroxy-2-benzothiazolesulfonamide (7.0 g., 0.03 mole), triethylamine (4.2 ml., 0.03 mole) and 4-dimethylaminopyridine (200 mg., catalyst) in dimethylformamide (25 ml.) is added benzoyl chloride (1.4 g., 0.01 mole). The reaction mixture is stirred at 25° C. for 11/2 hours and then poured into ice water (150 ml.) containing excess hydrochloric acid to give 3.3 g. of 2-sulfamoyl-6-benzothiazolyl benzoate which melts at 208°-210° C. after recrystallization from toluene.
