Procedure
To a mixture of 2-hydroxymethylpropane-1,3-diol (200 mg) in THF (1 ml) was added 2,2-dimethoxypropane (0.278 ml) and p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (11 mg). The mixture was stirred at RT for 4 h. NEt3 (262 μl) was added and the mixture was stirred for further 15 min. The solvent was removed and the residue was purified by CC (DCM to DCM/MeOH 95/5) to afford 220 mg of the desired compound.
