N-Boc-glycine (2.8 g, 16 mmol, 1.0 eq) was dissolved into 50 mL THF. CDI (2.6 g, 16 mmol, 1.0 eq) was added, and the mixture heated to 80° C. for 2 hours. The solution was cooled to room temperature and added to a solution of intermediate (2c) (5.7 g, 16 mmol, 1.0 eq) in 100 mL THF followed by DBU (2.4 mL, 16 mmol, 1.0 eq). The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was then concentrated, redissolved into 100 mL EtOAc, washed with saturated bicarbonate, saturated aqueous NaCl, dried over MgSO4, and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed (10% MeOH:EtOAc with 0.7% NH3) to yield intermediate (2d) (5.6 g).
