To a solution of 8-iodo-3,4-dihydro-1H-1-benzazepine-2,5-dione (0.6 g, 2.0 mmol) in toluene (9 mL) and H2O (1 mL) under an atmosphere of N2 was added cyclopropylboronic acid (0.34 g, 4.0 mmol), K3PO4 (1.27 g, 6.0 mmol), PCy3 (1.2 mL, 0.8 mmol), and Pd(OAc)2 (90 mg, 0.4 mmol). The reaction mixture was allowed to stir at 80° C. for 12 h and then allowed to cool to rt. To the mixture were added EtOAc (50 mL) and H2O (50 mL), and the resulting solids were filtered over Celite®. The organic solution was separated and the aqueous solution was extracted with EtOAc (2×50 mL). The organic solutions were combined, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography to provide 8-cyclopropyl-3,4-dihydro-1H-1-benzazepine-2,5-dione (100 mg, 23%).
