Procedure

To a solution of 1-[(2′-cyanobiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-4-ethyl-6-oxo-2-propyl-1,6-dihydropyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid (0.21 g), morpholine (0.07 g) and triethylamine (0.22 mL) in N,N-dimethylformamide were added N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (0.15 g) and 1-hydroxybenzotriazole monohydrate (0.12 g), and the mixture was stirred for 12 hr. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with 1 M hydrochloric acid and then with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a colorless solid (0.22 g, 89%).
