To a solution of 2-hydroxybenzothiazole (2.0 g, 13.2 mmol) and potassium carbonate (2.74 g, 19.8 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (20 mL), was added 1-bromo-3-chloropropane (3.92 mL, 39.7 mmol, d=1.6). After stirring at 55° C. for 18 hours, the reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (100 mL), washed with dilute citric acid, water and brine. The organic phase was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated to obtain 3-(3-chloropropyl)benzo[d]thiazol-2(3H)-one (2.86 g, 95%).
