8-(3-Methyl-isothiazol-5-yl)-1,4-dioxa-spiro[4.5]decan-8-ol (0.76 g, 0.0030 mol) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL), and a solution of 3.0 M of hydrogen chloride in water (5.0 mL) was added. The mixture was stirred overnight. Solid potassium carbonate was added to neutralize the acid and EtOAc was added to extract the product. The extract was dried and concentrated to give a crude product which was used directly for next step.
