To a mixture of NaH (0.249 g, 10.0 mmol) in DMF (5.00 mL) was added a solution of 1-H-indole (0.585 g, 5.00 mmol) in DMF (2.00 mL) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at 0° C. and warmed up to room temperature. To the reaction mixture 1-bromo-6-chlorohexane (0.998 g, 5.00 mmol) was added dropwise via syringe and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight. The reaction mixture was diluted with EtOAc (30 mL), washed with water (3×10 mL), brine (10 mL), dried over MgSO4, concentrated in vacuo and purified by chromatography using hexane:EtOAc (97.5:2.5) to give the desired product (0.900 g, 76.0%): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.76–7.54 (m, 1H), 7.47–6.96 (m, 4H), 6.60–6.34 (m, 1H), 4.13 (t, 2H, J=6.8 Hz), 3.50 (t, 2H, J=5.6 Hz), 1.98–1.79 (m, 2H), 1.79–1.64 (m, 2H), 1.54–1.17 (m, 4H).
