A mixture of 4-bromo-3-bromomethyl-benzonitrile (2.66 g, 9.7 mmol), indoline (1.14 mL, 10.2 mmol) and triethylamine (1.60 mL, 11.5 mmol) was heated at reflux for 18 h in dry tetrahydrofuran (50 mL). The flask was cooled and ether (100 mL) was added. Evaporation gave crude 4-bromo-3-(2,3-dihydro-indol-1-ylmethyl)-benzonitrile.
