Procedure
A mixture of 1-hydroxy-7-(trifluoromethyl)-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole-4-carbonitrile in an excess of POCl3 was heated in a microwave apparatus at 175° C. for a period of 13 min. The reaction mixture was poured slowly into cold EtOAc and saturated NaHCO3. The organic phase was separated, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated to give the title compound.
