Procedure

To a mixture of triphenylphosphine oxide (610 mg) and acetonitrile (10 mL) was added trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride (310 mg) at 2° C., and the mixture was stirred at 0-5° C. for 30 min. A solution of N-[2-(benzylthio)-3-thiomorpholinopropyl]-5-(3-methoxypropoxy)-7-[methyl(pyridin-2-ylsulfonyl)amino]-1H-indole-2-carboxamide (380 mg) and thioanisole (140 mg) in acetonitrile (10 mL) was added dropwise to the reaction mixture at 0-5° C., and the mixture was stirred at 0-5° C. for 30 min. The reaction mixture was poured into saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was extracted with concentrated hydrochloric acid (10 mL×3), and the hydrochloric acid layers were combined, and washed with ethyl acetate. The aqueous layer was basified with potassium carbonate, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated brine, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The obtained residue was subjected to basic silica gel column chromatography, and eluted with hexane-ethyl acetate (9:1-1:2, volume ratio) to give the title compound (110 mg, yield 34%) as a colorless oil.
