7-Methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene-1-carboxylic acid (0.62 g), 4-isopropylaniline (0.41 g) and triethylamine (0.84 mL) were dissolved in DMF (20 mL), and HOBt.H2O (0.48 g) and WSCI.HCl (0.61 g) were added under ice-cooling. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for one day and the reaction mixture was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated and ether was added to the residue. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration to give N-(4-isopropylphenyl)-7-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene-1-carboxamide (0.70 g). melting point: 168-169° C.
