Procedure

A solution of 6-bromo-naphthalen-2-ol (18.0 g, 80.7 mmol), t-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (14.6 g, 96.8 mmol), triethyl amine (12.3 g, 121.0 mmol), and DMAP (0.75 g) in THF (400 mL) was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction was taken up in ethyl acetate and washed with 1N HCl (2×) and brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated to give an oil. The product was crystallized from acetonitrile cooled to 0° C. to give (6-Bromo-naphthalen-2-yloxy)-tert-butyl-dimethyl-silane (25.8 g, 95%) as an off-white solid.
