3.0 g of 1-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-[3-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxypropyl]-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-azetidin-2-one (11) 7.0 g of 1,4-bisbromomethylbenzene and 5.0 g of potassium carbonate were dissolved in 100 ml of dimethylformamide and stirred at room temperature for 90 min. After the reaction ended, the mixture was dissolved in ethyl acetate and extracted two times with water. The organic phase was dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (n-heptane/ethyl acetate). Yield 3.2 g of colorless crystals (12) of molecular weight 592.49 (C32H28BrF2NO3); MS (ESI): 592.2 (MH+).
